Nothing can beat freshly made pasta. Once you’ve experienced it, it’s very hard to go back.
The Basil Leaf Cafe, located off of 9th and Indiana in Lawrence, KS serves a menu jam-packed with freshly made dishes. It can be difficult to spot, but is on the corner of a strip right off of 9th street.
Beautifully stained wood flooring and 8 to ten table tops, accompanied by a bar make up the interior of The Basil Leaf Cafe. What caught my eye were the light fixtures. Repurposed wine bottles, in both green or blue, add a little flair to the comfortable atmosphere.
The Caprese salad is not what would normally come to mind when you think of a Caprese. Fresh heirloom tomatoes and mozzarella sit on top of a fresh bed of arugula and mixed greens. This slight variation from the norm was very good.
Pictured above is the side of spaghetti and meatballs. I have never experienced such fresh noodles in my life. Soft in texture, they were incomparable. The meatball, about the size of my fist, topped with freshly grated mozzarella, was great as well. Although I went with a smaller portion, I could not begin to make a dent and was simply forced to go home with enough leftovers for a second meal (no complaints here!).
I would give The Basil Leaf Cafe a 10/10.
